Beachwood Dental Arts

Dr. FieldBy Lorraine Bolan

Chances are that if you have driven on Route 9 in the Beachwood section, you have taken notice of a blue building adorned with a large caricature of a smiling, bespectacled, bearded dentist painted on the front. Housed inside that building, located at 659 Atlantic City Boulevard, is Beachwood Dental Arts. Beachwood Dental Arts is a complete family dental center and that caricature painted on the front is none other than Dr. Alvan Field.

Dr. Field is a family man who enjoys boating and fishing. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Maine. He attended Colby College in Maine and later Temple University in Philadelphia. After two years in the Air Force stationed in Dover, Delaware, he relocated to the shore area and opened Beachwood Dental Arts in 1961. When Dr. Field first opened his practice in Beachwood, there were only six other dentists in the area. Instead of feeling any competition, Dr. Field was welcomed into the “fraternity.”

“Til this day, all the dentists in the area are part of a larger fraternity of well-meaning, talented people and I am glad to be a part of that,” said Dr. Field.

First in the area to coin the phrase “smile dentistry,” Dr. Field and his associates view dentistry as an art form. “Making people feel better and look better gives me the greatest joy. Seeing a satisfied patient is the greatest satisfaction and it never gets old,” said Dr. Field. Dr. Field admits that there have been many changes and advancements in the dental profession, but, his philosophy has always remained the same. It is to provide the finest quality dentistry and personalized attention in a comfortable atmosphere with affordable fees. “We treat patients like family. Trust, caring and dedication,” he says.

Dr. Field’s wife, Carol, who is also a part of Beachwood Dental Arts, says, “We like to say we don’t accept new patients, we adopt them.”

Some of the current patients at Beachwood Dental Arts are grandchildren of his original patients and some of the generations of the family of patients come from as far as Egg Harbor, Tuckerton, Jackson and Monmouth County.

Though the very personable and good-natured Dr. Field does not treat patients himself much anymore, he is still there to keep his patients happy by swapping a good story, a laugh or two or just giving them the comfort they need from their long trusted dental professional. Patients can also rest assured that they are in the excellent hands of his extremely gifted and talented staff which includes Dr. Vincent Felici, Dr. Edward Checkett and Dr. Assad Tanios, as well as registered dental hygienists Adria Wolfsandle, Gloria Imperiale and Barbara Schaaf.

“I have an office full of Picassos,” said Dr. Field with a smile.

Beachwood Dental Arts offers complete family dental care all under one roof. Services include periodontic maintenance, oral hygiene, cosmetic laser whitening, endodontic (root canals), oral surgery and dental implants and dentures.

Unlike other dental facilities, Beachwood Dental Arts offers something a bit more special that makes it stand out among the rest. Beachwood Dental Arts has its own complete on-site dental laboratory. The workmanship in the laboratory is of the highest quality and at Beachwood Dental Arts, they use only the finest of materials.

The on-site dental laboratory makes it possible to have dentures repaired with the greatest of convenience and speed. Depending on the problem, broken dentures can usually be repaired in one to two hours and new dentures can be made in as little as three days.

They say you get only one chance at a first impression and a great smile is a very important part of that first impression. Dr. Field and his associates at Beachwood Dental Arts represent the experience, consistency, diversity and professionalism you desire and deserve as a patient. They take great pride in the quality and personal, individual assurance and care given to each patient and the beautiful smiles they create. From the first moment you walk through the door, you can feel the warmth and hominess. In these tough times, Dr. Field knows there are those with financial difficulties, and many with no dental insurance, making the cost of dental care quite a hardship. For those who qualify, payment plans are available and Dr. Field also offers interest free payments for the first six months. He also accepts all major credit cards.
